Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is located right here in Goldsboro, North Carolina — named for U.S. Navy Lieutenant Seymour A. Johnson, a Goldsboro native and test pilot who gave his life in service in 1941. Today the base is home to the 4th Fighter Wing of the Air Combat Command, one of the most distinguished fighter wings in the United States Air Force, flying the F-15E Strike Eagle.
